Big White Ski Home Construction Boom
New construction has been booming at Big White this summer! We haven’t seen this level of development on the mountain since the mid-2000s. The increasingly strong market over the past five years has provided all the right conditions to encourage both developers and individual families to build their dream ski homes. Big White has been attracting those from all over the world - locals from Kelowna and Vancouver, BC to as far away as Australia.
In particular the Feathertop Estates community is seeing an unprecedented level of new construction. Feathertop Estates is the most prestigious development at Big White with its striking mountainview homesites. Sales began in around 2007 and up until about 2018 remained predominantly vacant. Over the past 3 years we’ve seen more than half of those vacant lots change ownership and many start building. Undeveloped view lots at Feathertop Estates are one of the last opportunities to build your dream home within a short walk to Big White village.
Feathertop Estates is a private ski home community at Big White Ski Resort offering mountainview living right between the ski runs. Lots were first made available around 2007 but development really only took off with the latest Big White constructions boom.
Award-winning Big White builder Weninger Construction & Design Ltd. has numerous projects underway for some of the most discerning clientele.
Between February and May of this year the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary received 7 Development Permit Applications from individual looking to build their Big White dream homes. These ranged from a modest 2,598 sq.ft. (241.4m²) home proposed for Lot 47 to a 4,825 sq.ft. (448.3m²) masterpiece on Lot 26. There are currently 16 homes under constructions at various stages in the process from foundation forms to finishing materials. New home builders currently working no projects include Weninger Construction, Craft Built Homes, Riverview Construction, and GPC Fine Custom Homes.
Other development taking place at Big White this Summer includes the next phase of townhouses in at Spyglass in Happy Valley, returning after more than decade. The developer, K West Developments, is seeking to build 27 new premium homes within the next year or so. Then there is the next couple phases at Grizzle Ridge Estates where their construction crew is working away at a new 6-home building and a new duplex building. The developer, Iron Horse Developments, has not yet began sales of these Big White so if you’re looking for a fantastic home for your family to start building memories in these just might be ready for you to purchase in the coming months.
Lastly, sitting just below the Serwa’s ski run, the Monashee Ridge development (formerly the proposed High Forest development) has finally broke ground on servicing the first phase of theses modest mountainview homesites. The developer, BC 0980131 Ltd., has sold 3 lot and home packages with a 4th currently listed for sale and although they have marketed that homes could be available before the end of 2022 there remains some skepticism purchasers won’t be kept waiting a little bit longer.
